Agosto è malinconia. Perché anche se nel nostro immaginario è il cuore dell’estate, invece è tutta una questione di ombre un po’ più lunghe, di giornate che lentamente si accorciano e di quella sensazione che un altro anno sia passato, come cantavano i Righeira. Non so se siamo troppo romantici per essere una rivista di ciclismo, ma abbiamo deciso di soffocare sul nascere questi pensieri pedalando, scegliendo luoghi capaci di sorprendere anche se magari – per noi che scriviamo dall’Italia – non sono nemmeno così distanti. E come ha recentemente scritto il nostro Stefano Zago, “nonostante il sole che scende e il Tour che finisce”, è ora di godersi questo periodo magico su due ruote.

August is melancholy. Because even though, in our imagination, it is the very heart of summer, it is really all about shadows growing a little longer, days slowly getting shorter, and that feeling that another year has slipped away — just as Righeira once sang.

Maybe we’re too romantic for a cycling magazine. But we decided to stop those thoughts in their tracks by riding, choosing places capable of surprising us even when — at least for those of us writing from Italy — they may not be all that far away.

And as our Stefano Zago recently wrote, “despite the sun setting and the Tour coming to an end,” now is the time to enjoy this magical season on two wheels.
